Terry’s Journey Back to Living Again

By Lucas Brown

Terry is a grandfather who has always loved being active, taking long walks, staying busy with work and keeping up with his family. A few years ago, things began to change. His feet started to burn, tingle and ache. Sleep became difficult. Work required more effort. Even everyday outings became harder than they should have been. He described his life during that time with a raw honesty that many people living with chronic pain will recognize.

“My life was like… can I say hell?”

The discomfort was constant. Every step reminded him something wasn’t right, and neuropathy slowly began shaping his world. He found himself adjusting his day around his symptoms, limiting activities, and losing the ease he once had. Hoping it would improve on its own, he waited. Instead, the burning pain only grew more persistent.

Eventually, Terry’s wife suggested something he hadn’t considered before. Acupuncture.

Understanding Neuropathy

Neuropathy affects millions of people across the United States. It occurs when nerves become irritated or damaged, which disrupts communication between the brain, spinal cord and limbs. Many people first notice symptoms in their feet.

There isn’t just one cause. Neuropathy can develop from:

• Diabetes or prediabetes
• Injury or nerve compression
• Degenerative disc disease
• Chemotherapy or certain medications
• Autoimmune conditions
• Inflammation
• Circulation issues
• Or no clear cause at all.

Risk factors such as age, diabetes, and a sedentary lifestyle can increase the likelihood of developing neuropathy.

The symptoms vary, but can be debilitating. People with neuropathy commonly experience:

• Burning or tingling in the feet
• Pins-and-needles sensations
• Numbness or reduced feeling
• Sharp, shooting, or electric pain
• Weakness or difficulty walking
• Pain that worsens at night
• Restless sleep & discomfort with standing

Living with neuropathy can be physically and emotionally draining. It affects energy, mobility, sleep, mood, and independence. Terry felt all of those things.

Finding Relief with Acupuncture

Terry began treatment under Dr. Brown’s care, where he received a plan focused on calming nerve pain, improving circulation, and supporting nerve function. Progress did not come instantly, but gradually and consistently. After years of constant discomfort, Terry finally began to sleep more comfortably. He noticed he could move without burning sensations dominating his attention. He felt improvement that was steady and noticeable.

“If my feet feel like this today, I’m good to go the rest of my life.”

As the pain eased, Terry returned to the things neuropathy had taken away from him. He began walking again, spending more time on his feet, and enjoying long days with his grandchildren. He shared that everyday life now feels lighter and more comfortable.

“Walking was tough, working was tough… but now my feet are more walkable and I can actually enjoy my days again.”

His personality, humor, and confidence came back with his comfort. He left us with a line that everyone in the clinic still remembers clearly.

“He’ll fix your feet, he’ll fix your face. Doc can fix any place… on your body!”

Hope for Those Living with Neuropathy

Neuropathy can feel discouraging, especially when it begins interfering with daily life. Terry’s experience is a reminder that improvement is possible even when it feels like options are limited.

Acupuncture may help reduce nerve pain, improve sleep, restore circulation, increase mobility, and support better quality of life. Many patients report relief that allows them to move more comfortably, rest better, and begin doing the activities they enjoy again.

If Terry’s story sounds familiar, know that you are not alone and that relief is possible. You deserve comfort. You deserve mobility. You deserve a life that isn’t dictated by pain.
